Mother Nature Strikes Again!!!

Yesterday morning I was woken by my phone ringing off the hook. The roads were closed and my employee couldn't get to work. When I asked her why she said, "Look outside". And this is what I saw!!! It had poured all night long and Laie was flooded. I tried to get to Turlte Bay but the roads were so bad that it was unsafe to go past Kahuku. I turned around, went to foodland to get emergency supplies (water, food and CHOCOLATE) and headed home. After waking Lee up, we scrambled to get any valuables off the ground in the garage and waited...luckily we were spared but so many people in Laie were not. My prayers are with all of the families that have lost everything...and so close to Christmas. It makes you appreciate how blessed we all are and thankfully I haven't heard of any major injuries. On a lighter note...here are some pictures of the flooding that made me smile...
Hey if it's gonna flood you might as well take advantage of it:-) School was cancelled, the roads were closed so time to break out the kayaks!!!
I think this is hillarious...would be even more funny if someone was riding on the boogey board!
This fence has to be atleast 5 feet tall!!!! And the water was so dirty...I don't even want to know what kind of bacteria was floating around here.
Foodland was missing one of their shopping carts! Hey you gotta stay dry somehow:-)
Necessity is the mother of invention...I never thought I would see a wood pallette attached to a surfboard being used like a canoe LOL!!!
All the mainland students at BYU weren't sure if they should panick or join the fun...
All kidding aside I my heart goes out to the families that had their houses damaged in the flood. This is the Kajiyama's house...just a few doors down from our home. They have been family friends since I was born and I used to baby sit their twin daughters. They just completed the addition to their house (on the left) this summer and I am so sad for them!!! Luckily there were so many ward member and friends who came to their aide! They are such sweet and loving people and I'm so grateful that the community stepped up to give back in their time of need.

Thanks for posting the pics Mibi..and I'm glad u guys were okay. Sad for the others too....we're a few feet off the ground and stayed home until the rain subsided so I didn't see the worst of it when it was happening! Guess we just gotta all count our blessings!
Love ya!

Those pictures are unreal-but very typical Laie! I love it! I'm glad you guys are safe. My mom said she had never seen it rain so hard. It makes me miss home. I miss the rain(we don't get much of that in the desert)

Wow Mibi! I can't believe this! It reminds me of the time we were in highschool and we were swimming in the football field, remember that? I am sad too for all those who lost their things....one question, did you go kayaking at least? LOL! My prayers are with you all there!

This post makes me so homesick! I hope all is well by now! Nicole's facebook status says it is, but I'm sure there is a LOT of cleanup there! Y'all are in my thoughts and prayers! Aloha!
